Armenian Institute for Development has undertaken the second meeting of lawyers network within the framework of the “Strategic litigation in Caucasus” programme. The meeting took place on 6 October 2007 in Yerevan, Armenia Marriott hotel.

Overall number of seventeen lawyers participated in the event. Prior to the venue there were distributed content materials for participants. For discussions there were selected two cases, i.e. the case of Harutyunyan v. Armenia and the case of Tchghlyan v. Armenia, on which the European Court of Human Rights has recently declared its opinion.

Hayk Alumyan, the representative of Mr. Harutyunyan in the European Court of Human Rights, has presented the case of Harutyunyan v. Armenia and the corresponding judgment of Strasbourg court rendered on 28 June 2007 (See, the judgment of ECtHR in English or in Armenian from the official website of the Ministry of Justice of RA). Thereafter, Arthur Grigoryan, the representative of Mr. Tchghlyan in the European Court of Human Rights, has presented the case of Tchghlyan v. Armenia and the corresponding decision of Strasbourg court rendered on 7 June 2007 (See, the decision of ECtHR in English). The case was taken to the “Strategic litigation in Caucasus” programme. In this case there was reached a friendly settlement between the parties, according to which the Government paid the applicant the sum of USD 150,000. Therefore, the Court stroke the application out of its list of cases.

Then Hrayr Ghukasyan (the lecturer of the law faculty of Yerevan State University, advocate) has presented the concept of the Criminal Code of Procedure and its comparison with the corresponding Code in use (See, the text of the concept in Armenian). In the end, Dina Vedernikova (INTERIGHTS) reviewed the recent case-law of ECtHR in respect of Armenia (See, the full text of review in Russian).
