Rantsev v Cyprus and Russia |

On 7 January 2010, in an historic first judgment concerning cross border human trafficking in Europe, the European Court of Human Rights has found violations of Articles 2, 4 and 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights in relation of Cyprus and Article 4 of the same Convention in relation of Russia. In a judgment, which confirmed that trafficking cannot be considered compatible with the values of the European Convention on Human Rights or with a democratic society, the Court has taken this opportunity to further clarify states’ obligations to protect against, as well as to investigate, trafficking. |

Armenian Institute for Development together with its partners Netherlands Helsinki Committee, the International Centre for the Legal Protection of Human Rights (INTERIGHTS) and assistance of American Bar Association (ABA/ROLI) Armenian office, OSCE Yerevan office and British Embassy Yerevan on 30-31 October 2009 has held the training in the framework of the project of "Strategic Litigation in Caucasus" that was mostly devoted to "Article 1 of Protocol 1 of the European Convention on Human Rights" topic. Training has passed in Yerevan, Armenia Marriott Hotel. Some 35 representatives of civil society, international organizations, advocates and judges participated in the event. From international human rights experts there were invited Yonko Grozev and Dina Vedernikova, as well as Arthur Grigoryan as local expert. |

Sixth meeting of lawyers network |

Armenian Institute for Development has undertaken the sixth meeting of lawyers network (second for 2009) within the framework of the “Strategic litigation in Caucasus” project. The meeting took place on 17 October 2009 in Yerevan at the premises of ABA/CEELI Armenian office. This meeting has become possible with the assistance of British Embassy Yerevan and ABA/CEELI Armenian office. From event partners there have participated Vigen Kocharyan and Arman Poghosyan from Armenian Institute for Development and Kregg Halstead, Kieth Peterson and Gayane Mkrtchyan form ABA/CEELI Armenian office. Overall number of sixteen lawyers participated in the event. Ara Ghazaryan and Arthur Grigoryan were invited as experts.
